The Graduate Design Engineer will report to the Head of Engineering.
Job Overview
The role of Graduate Design Engineer is to work within the innovation team to bring our client’s ideas to life through Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modelling, designing bespoke items that fit with the clients’ innovation projects and provide support to the Head of Engineering across a range of projects and tasks. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is embarking on their career in engineering. DefProc work from proof of concept stage, prototyping and on to small scale manufacturing across a range of sectors including environmental, culture and
health.
Each stage of each project is an opportunity to learn and hone your skills as a design engineer. This role is a critical part of our small team as you will create the design solutions for the client, so the client can visualise the prototypes, also create the engineering drawings to build prototypes and drawings that will be used by other subcontractors and partners within the projects. You will prepare developed CAD files
for use with 3D printing and laser cutting.

Responsibilities and Duties
The key responsibilities for the Graduate Design Engineer:
- To produce high-quality CAD models for all components used within the projects
- Designing for manufacture to ensure that parts are functional in practice and work cohesively together
- Work directly with clients to understand what they will require from their innovation and produce designs (this will be supported by the Head of Engineering)
- Research to create design ideas that will fit the clients’ requirements and demonstrate how they will be practically applied
Qualifications
The qualification requirement for this role are:
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience
This is an entry-level role, but you must have experience with CAD (eg. Fusion 360)
Understanding of how to create engineering drawings and their purpose
Be enthusiastic to learn new skills and to hone skills already gained through other experiences such as education and industry
Have a general understanding of product development and what is required to work comfortably within an innovation team
